Repaired and re-worked to fit an existing stone fireplace, this old mantel from the 1800s is made of heart pine, and shows the use and abuse of over 130 years. As much as possible of the piece's character was preserved during the repairs, and only small bits were cut away to fit it to the client's existing firebox. Loose layers of paint were carefully scraped and sanded. New trim was made to transition the mantel to the rock; all of it will be painted by the client at some future date.
