This main entry door with side lights faces due west. Nothing could stop the blinding sun from blasting into the home every afternoon until this pair of frame-and-panel doors was custom made for the narrow windows and installed. The windows had previously been covered with satin sheen clear vinyl window film and wore the traditional see-through curtain panels. Black curtains worked somewhat, but looked terrible. Custom blinds would not have shut-out enough light. The doors are made of basswood and painted to match the entry door; they are held closed with rare earth magnets. They can be left in the open position to allow morning light to illuminate the colorful window film that was a part of this project as well. |
