I used 21st century technology to assist in the making of my new shop sign/knocker: before ordering the 8" wide lion's head knocker, its image was scanned from a catalog, printed to life-size, and glued to 1/4" plywood so it could be used for proportioning the sign. The text was printed in 2" tall type, lightly glued to the plywood sign, and carefully chiseled and carved. Swan neck trim was made and attached to the top. After several applications of black and gold paint and a urethane top coat, the brass knocker was installed, and the sign was hung at the entrance to The Colonial Cabinet Shop.
