When this alcove was being finished-out years ago, the builder installed upper shelves, but left the bottom area open. The client wanted something that looked originally built-in and that would function with their new 52" wide TV and stereo system. In addition to making a three-section base cabinet with doors and adjustable shelves, the area behind the TV had to be blocked-off and transitioned into the upper shelves as well. The blocking panel also served as a mounting surface for the heavy TV, and therefore had to be built with substantial braces and framing behind. Finally, careful consideration had to be made for the various cables and wires that would run behind the panel and into the base cabinet, so radiused access holes were generously cut.
